Cosmic, ghostly and edgy are just a few words that describe the sounds produced by rising musicians Megan James and Corin Roddick, the dynamic duo behind Canadian-based project Purity Ring.
Christened "future pop," their songs encompass irresistibly intricate and mysterious effects, along with a consistency of catchy bass lines and stammering vocals.
Currently, the talented two-some have released three singles since January.
"Lofticries" offers a combination of deep, recurring tones, ambient nuances and provocative lyrics that make for an intoxicating melody. In "Belispeak," listeners will notice the dark undertones, pitch shifts and alternation of echoes serving as the backdrop of an overall eerily sweet song, incidentally managing to pay subtle homage to Roddick's love for Hip Hop music. The titles the songs offer play on words—"lofty" and "cries" in the former, "belly" and "speak" in the latter. Finally, those tuning in to "Ungirthed" will be drawn in by the darling lure of lighthearted tones and warped beats, which provide solidification of Purity Ring's ability to maintain a sound all to their own, yet impress with a variety of emotions.
Purity Ring is currently working towards the completion of their first full-length album, set to release in January of 2012, which will include all three of the aforementioned songs. Make way, mainstream; James and Roddick are fully prepared to make an impact on the music industry and breathe new life into the current wave of pop.
