The real housewives are starting up again. After a huge fan base turnout for” The Real Housewives of Orange County, New York City and Atlanta,” Bravo is about to kick off The Real Housewives of New Jersey.
With gossip, money, lies and backstabbing, “The Housewives of New Jersey” is anticipated to be the most popular one thus far.
“This time around the show is getting more press than ever before,” says Danielle Staub, 46, of Wayne. Staub is one of the housewives- the most dramatic one at that. “There is a lot of drama. I pushed some buttons, but they were meant to be pushed. I don’t apologize for anything; I am who I am.”
The cast includes Danielle Staub, the victim; Jacqueline Laurita, the sweetheart; Teresa Giudice, the true “jersey girl and Dina Manzo and Caroline Manzo, the tag-team sisters. Dina and Caroline are sisters who married brothers. The Manzo brothers own one of the biggest catering halls in New Jersey, The Brownstown in Paterson. Dina and Caroline’s brother Chris is married to Jacqueline, and Danielle and Teresa have no family relation to each other; they are all just friends, sort of.
All four women live in northern New Jersey with their husbands and kids; Danielle is the only one divorced. Dina, Caroline, and Jacqueline all live in Franklin Lakes, Danielle lives in Wayne and Teresa in Montville.
“People can’t wait for the show to start,” says Staub. “It’s getting so much attention. I feel like because New Jersey is such a real state. You’re either from here, or you know someone who is.”
The preview special for the show aired on March 18, but the actual season doesn’t begin until May 12.
The preview special shined a superficial light on the northern part of the Garden State. Clips of luxury cars, diamonds, beautiful million dollar homes and talk of money and more money were the main focus.
“When people think New Jersey, people think Sopranos, no? Every single one of us is Italian and New Jersey is such an Italian state,” says Staub. “That’s why the show is going to be so enjoyable; well one reason.”
William Paterson University senior Diana Westenberger says, “I’m so excited for the show to start. It is going to be so fun to watch them because they are from New Jersey, and better yet, one is from Wayne.”
A handful of WPU students want to watch the show because they feel it is a lot closer to home then any of the prior seasons.
“The other ones seem so farfetched, but these women are practically our neighbors,” says Junior Shannon Mayer. “If someone is going to do a reality TV show about filthy rich women I don’t think New Jersey would be a place that comes to mind; Ocean county-Duh, NYC-duh, but New Jersey? I guess we’ll see how they portray us ‘jersey girls.’”
