In some way or another, every person is connected to cancer.  Whether there is a direct link through a family member or friend, or an indirect association to the disease, everyone knows the cruel effects of this great evil.

Solar Panels on Campus

What many students may not know is that William Paterson University is an eco-friendly campus.  This month, the university is expecting to start the installation of a solar energy facility all over campus.  When completed, the system will be 3.5 megawatts, making it the largest photovoltaic installation in New Jersey and the largest of its kind on any university campus.

Science Hall Makeover to be Complete in 2010

Students on campus in January saw the last girders lifted to the top of the Science Hall's new wing. More recently floors took shape. And the new construction touches the outside of the building. Steve Bolyai, vice president for administration and finance at William Paterson said, the Science Hall is being expanded and renovated. The expansion, he said, should be completed in late 2010. He added that there will be a combination of new labs, classroom space, and faculty research facilities in the new wing, which will be open for use by students and faculty at that time.

Students Continue to Protest Budget Cuts

More hearings scheduled in April

 

The efforts of William Paterson University students to fight New Jersey’s budget cuts have gone from the Student Center, to the halls of the Trenton Statehouse, and finally, to Jersey City. However, it has yet to be determined how these efforts will pay off. “It’s a big fight. It’s very difficult. But at least they are being forced to hear us,” said Jessica Pepe, Student Government Association president and a junior at WPU.

 

WPUs Young Democratic Socialists Attend NY Rally

William Paterson University’s Young Democratic Socialists were among hundreds who protested on Wall Street last week against the recent bailouts of financial corporations and argued that taxpayer assistance for such companies should end.

WPU Irish Club: Rich in History, Culture

It's been a year since an Irishman gathered enough fans to start William Paterson University's first functional Irish club.

Brian O’Broin, WPU English professor, is the founder of the Irish Club. He started the club last year with hope that there was an interest for Irish culture in WPU students. O’Broin started with about 70 signatures of students who thought they’d be interested and now has many more. The club has now about 150 total members.

Art History Club: ‘Ekphrasis’

Club presidents recently welcomed a new club "Ekphrasis." The name of the club derives from a Greek word which means graphic.

When Emily Polhamus, Ekphrasis president and a senior majoring in art, realized that "students studying the history of art would graduate with a bachelor’s in art without ever having taken a drawing class," she felt compelled to join forces with others who felt the same way to found a club that projects the purpose of the word Ekphrasis, which is to "relate one from of medium to another by describing its essence and form, and by doing so, allow it to relate directly to the audience" since the incorporation of art as a new major in the Art Department.
