Rowan's Colleen Oswald tossed two shutouts and powered the No. 2 ranked team past the No. 18 William Paterson Pioneers on Saturday at Wightman Field, shutting the Pioneers out in a doubleheader, 8-0 in the first game and 1-0 in the second.
The senior right-hander improved her record to 22-1 and in the process helped Rowan sweep the doubleheader. Oswald struck out 10, and yielded just two hits to the Pioneers in game one. She followed that up with a 6-hit shutout in game two.
Rowan's Kristin Wallace smacked a two-run homer in the top of the third. Three batters later, Lauren Navarro drove the ball over the left field wall for a three-run homer that gave Rowan a 5-0 lead. This set the stage for the eventual 8-0 victory.
William Paterson's Jen Scott fell to 10-5 after she gave up 8 runs on 13 hits.
In game two, WPU's pitcher Diana Schraer held Rowan to just one run, but the Pioneers didn't put any runs on the board. Rowan took the lead when Jen Lake drove in Jamie Assini in the fourth inning. The Pioneers had a golden opportunity in the fifth when they had the bases loaded with one out, but failed to score. The final score was 1-0 with Rowan as the victors. Schraer fell to 9-3, despite allowing only one run on four hits. The Pioneers dropped to 19-8 overall, with a 5-5 league record.
