On May 1st, 2006, New York Knicks owner James Dolan was walking through the hallowed halls of Madison Square Garden, when a piece of tile smashed onto his head. This impact caused the sudden action of actual brain activity, and Dolan has been a new man ever since.
He finally fired Isiah Thomas, who has done nothing but load the Knicks with underachieving losers with absurdly large contracts. Before the head injury that cleared his mind, Dolan had actually said he was committed to Thomas, who under the team has yet to win 40 games and made the playoffs only once. Now with the ability to think rationally, Dolan quickly hired William Paterson student Michael McCrae to be their new general manager.
"Hell, even someone with no NBA management experience can do a better job than Isiah Thomas," Dolan said.
McCrae's first move as G.M. was shipping out malcontent point guard Stephon Marbury. The team shipped him and their 20th and 29th first round picks in the draft to Minnesota, in exchange for Troy Hudson, Trenton Hassell, and Minnesota's 4th pick in the draft.
"I can't wait to rejoin my main man Kevin Garnett in Minnesota, and ruin their franchise!" Marbury said with a smile after the trade was announced.
The Knicks then traded forward Maurice Taylor to the Seattle Sonics for forward Danny Fortson. Fortson is big physical defender who is the role player the Knicks desperately need, has an expiring contract.
The Knicks then shipped Steve Francis, who has sour-pussed his way out of a few NBA cellar dwellers, to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for defensive maverick and possible lunatic Ron Artest. Also included in the deal is forward Corliss Williamson, who has an expiring contract of 6 million dollars. This gives the Knicks the defensive stopper they and head coach Larry Brown crave. It also gives Artest a chance to play with the team he has said he has wanted to play for all his life, and gives the Kings a chance to team Francis and Bibby in their backcourt.
