Pockets too empty for a fancy Valentine's Day meal? Forget to make reservations? Maybe you've just been together too long to bother impressing each other. A simple solution that can make this Hallmark holiday easy and special is a short trip to Blockbuster and a night at home with your significant other. Need a rental recommendation? No problem.
The Classics
"Gone With the Wind" (1939)
The unparalleled love story of Scarlett O'Hara makes the Civil War a lot less boring than listening to a professor lecture about it. First date with your Valentine? This four-hour film will give you plenty of time to make your move.
"Breakfast At Tiffany's" (1961)
If it's raining on Valentine's Day, go with this one. The final two minutes will have you longing for a street scene of your own.
"Casablanca" (1942)
If you've never heard Humphrey Bogart say, "Here's looking at you kid," you've been missing out.
The New Classics
"Pretty Woman" (1990)
Julia Roberts as a prostitute may be a bonus for the guys (and maybe seeing George Constanza with hair), but this film provides a love story perfect for a fun Valentine's date.
"Sleepless in Seattle" (1993)
Don't write this one off if you thought "You've Got Mail" was lame. Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan prove that a blind date really can end in true love.
"Jerry Maguire" (1996)
Three words: You complete me.
The Slightly Dramatic, But Romantic
"Love Actually" (2003)
This film is like a jigsaw puzzle, but instead of being frustrated because you lost pieces under the couch or in your attic, you'll be completely satisfied and love-struck.
2008 Woodie Awards
