Winter is upon us, which means it’s time to start bundling up. From coats to boots, here are four essentials to look great and keep warm this winter.
Coats- There are a variety of styles and materials to choose from when it comes to coats this year. One very popular style is the trench coat. This style is a very elegant and sophisticated look, especially tied around the waist. Long, fitted coats that have a retro and military inspired design are always the way to go. These can be found in many patterns and colors. Grays and blacks are always a classic choice, but this season you can also try plaids or bright colors, like purple and electric blue.
Retro trends inspired by the 1960s include not just trench coats but also “swing” coats. These loose fitting jackets have simple lines and float away from the waist, which compliment almost any body type.
Sweaters- When shopping for tops this winter, big is in. Oversized and “chunky” sweaters are very chic these days and keep you extra warm. For long sweaters, wearing a wide belt over the top of it is a stylish way to show that you do have a waist under all that knitting. Oversized doesn’t mean the whole sweater has to be big, though. Portions of the sweater can be enlarged, from collars and turtle necks to sleeves or even the actual body of the top.
Accessories- Coats and sweaters aren’t the only things you need to keep warm. You have to remember to keep your hands warm too! In keeping with the oversized trend, long-elbow length leather gloves are right on target. These long gloves look great with bangle bracelets or you can scrunch the gloves down towards your wrist for a different look.
Boots- Your feet have to stay warm too and there is an abundance of boot styles to help you do so. These boot styles range from short “ankle” boots to knee-high. Fashionable embellishments on this winter’s trendiest boots include fur trim, laces, metallic buckles, zippers and bold seams in contrasting colors. While heels remain a favorite, flat, or low-heeled, riding boots also look great with any outfit but are a little more comfortable and will keep you more stable on icy terrain.
All of these trends can cost you loads of money at high-end stores, but can also be found at budget friendly stores if you’re a struggling college student. Target offers almost all of these trends at great prices from designers like Isaac Mizrahi, who also designs for the wealthy. Payless also has shoes at great deals, and there is almost always a “BOGO” (buy one get one) sale going on. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to look like a million bucks this winter.
