It's time to bring on the green. March 17, better known as Saint Patrick's Day, is just around the corner.

Although not an official holiday in the United States, most will use the day as an excuse to party. It is actually an annual feast day, celebrating Saint Patrick, one of the patron saints of Ireland. Despite not everyone being Irish, it is still widely celebrated by people here in the states.

It just so happens that St. Patrick's Day falls during spring break this semester, ideal for any die-hard celebrators (who are of age, of course.)

Instead of just wearing a green shirt or eating Lucky Charms for breakfast, why not go nuts and make it big this year? Some classic ways of celebrating the day include eating traditional Irish food such as corned beef, cabbage and soda bread; wearing green; or going to the St. Patrick's Day Parade in New York City. Then there is the typical bar crawl, searching for that idolized green beer.

Maybe this year is a good time to change it up and have fun in your own home. Why not throw an Irish-themed party for St. Patrick's Day?

There are some easy and fun ways to do this without spending too much money. Keeping a green theme and getting a few key pieces can make you the luck of the draw this St. Patty's Day.

First, you may want to think about baking or cooking some Irish cuisine yourself. There are a number of Irish recipes you can find on the Internet, whether it involves making your own soda bread or simply making lime green Jell-O. In the box below is a recipe for the classic Irish soda bread, courtesy of MasterCook.

There are also many ideas for how to throw a fun party for St. Patrick's Day. This is also a great way to celebrate the day if you are under 21-years-old. Ehow.com has a list of ways to "throw green fun." Below is a list of some ideas that the Web site suggests:

• The main idea is to think green when decorating. Get green balloons and green cutouts of shamrocks and place them around your party site. If you want to be a little more creative, get a green "party" light bulb to replace your outside light so your place is easily recognizable. You can also use green Christmas tree lights.
