Why I dig it: I love the second-gen RAV4 because it's an excellent all-around package. It looks great inside and out, has been bulletproof, and is surprisingly fun to drive. The 2.0- liter engine makes 148 horses, similar torque, and has good pickup - especially when revved. The shifter (yes, it's manual!) has short throws and the clutch has a nice uptake. Combine this with quick, communicative steering, and you can see why RAV4 puts the "sport" in "sport utility." With a comfortable cabin, generous back seat legroom and trunk space, it puts the "utility" in, too. It's also 4WD, which means sweet all-weather traction. And to top it all off, my Toyota gets great mileage: 24-25 overall. I really couldn't ask for more.
