Free time at William Paterson University can lead to shenanigans and possible Internet fame from boredom.
YouTube has been a forum for those who want to put their videos on the Internet, including home videos, concert performances, television shows, and other recorded events. When one enters William Paterson into a search, 262 videos come up with that tagline. There is even a video titled "Bored in Willy P's parking Lot!" (Unfortunately, it is just a 14-second shot of someone's dashboard.)
The rest of the videos range from amateur recordings of friends just hanging out, the Men's Ice Hockey Team, a group of videos titled "Meet the Greeks," and something that appears to be some kind of Internet hip-hop show. As one would expect, the videos pertaining to Greek Life and the university's athletics are among the most viewed. The videos about killing time are the ones that had the shockingly high viewerships.
A user who goes by the name racheljankielwicz has a video tagged "too funny to talk about," which shows a girl getting ready to go out. While she is fixing her hair she notices that one of her dreadlocks has fallen out and laughing ensues.
"Oh, my hair. Oh, my hair," says the girl.
"That's her hair," says the camera girl. "No doubt about it."
The user racheljankielwicz also has other videos that chronicle such activities as eating dinner and studying. The one thing that is surprising is the fact that these videos have been viewed by more than 300 and 200 people, respectively.
Another boredom-killing video comes courtesy of user blufuzycow, which gives the artistic spin on My Chemical Romance's "Helena" video. This spoof, of a video that depicts the funeral of a girl, is shot by the Ben Shahn Arts Center and the Science Hall. The video is complete with the umbrellas, dancers, Tupperware "casket," and necrophilia angle that was not as overt in the original. This video has also received more than 300 viewings.
