From watching films like Home Alone as a child to watching films like Jaws and Roller Coaster, Steve Meitzler knew that he wanted to be a screenwriter and a director.

"As a child, I was always interested in how the special effects were done and how the actors were hired to play the characters in the movie," said Meitzler.

His curiosity led him to want to study film and learn more about how these great motion pictures are made.

He traveled to Universal Studios in Hollywood where he took a back tour of the sets used in various films.

"I got to meet some directors and producers, not major ones, but for little independent films," said Meitzler. "But it helps every time you get in contact with them. The most important thing in film is contacts."

Meitzler was also fortunate to meet actor, Robert Englund, who played Freddy Krueger in the film A Nightmare on Elm Street. With a smile on his face, Meitzler describes Englund as a down-to-earth, really nice guy, who treats you as one of his friends.

"I really admire him as an actor," said Meitzler. "He's one of the main reasons why I decided to go into film. A Nightmare on Elm Street was the start of it all and it really was a great movie."

Englund had a really big impact in Meitzler's life. Meitzler also was inspired by

Director Steven Spielberg.

With his dreams in mind and his inspiration at heart, Meitzler finished his first short film, "The End of the World," for his film class at William Paterson. He stated that his collaboration with his group was frustrating at times but he was able to handle those difficult situations. His group received an A for their short film. He is now working on another film called "The Conspiracy."

In the future, Meitzler hopes to work for Universal or Lions Gate, which might lead him to bigger and better opportunities.

"Ten years from now I see myself sitting beside a director or screenwriter, definitely working beside them," smiles Meitzler. "And then afterwards, maybe a little longer than 10 years, I'll have my own film company."
