That is the goal for the Student Public Relations Association, whose awareness campaign this semester is "Going Green."
"This is such a big trend right now, that we wanted to bring it to the WPU campus," says Rachael Weeks, SPRA president.
On this environmentally friendly day, SPRA is holding an event outside of the John Victor Machuga Student Center from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tables will be devoted to areas such as recycling, organic materials, water and energy and emissions.
SPRA will host different games pertaining to each subject, such as bowling with water bottles. There will be handouts and brochures filled with information about going green and ways you can help to save the environment.
Students will also have the chance to win some giveaways, such as water bottles and free bus trip passes from NJ Transit. The Facilities Management Office and Commuter Services are among the other departments participating in this event.
SPRA, which focuses on developing skills in the public relations field, including working with other organizations on campus, also chooses an awareness campaign each semester. This day is the culmination of extensive research and efforts throughout the spring semester.
This organization will use April 22 as a way to make WPU students more aware of environmental issues.
"We are hoping this event will inform the William Paterson Community of the increasing environmental problems and hopefully encourage them to take small steps toward making a difference," says Chelsea Falato, SPRA vice president.
