If there is one movie to see this year, then Avatar is it. Filled with action, suspense, romance and intrigue, director James Cameron has proven his cinematic genius to the world once again.
Based in a future where Earth has become waste-filled and unlivable a group of scientists and marines fly into space to discover worlds unknown and instead stumble on a gold mine.
The fictitious world known as “Pandora” holds what is to be the saving grace for Earth, a rock known as Unobtainium, which as one character states, “Goes for fifty kilos a pound.” Due to the high demand of this rock, an ex-marine must prove himself by saving the indigenous people of the planet, which happen to be ten foot tall feline-like creatures, known as the Na’vi.
Along with lead character, Jake Sully, you are taken on a roller-coaster ride of emotions, all culminating in one big guns-blazing, action packed final battle scene.
Thrillingly suspenseful and at times sad, this movie is not only amazing but also carries a message. We need to take better care of our planet and the people who inhabit it, because if we don’t then we are only hurting ourselves. When it comes down to it, we are all connected and what hurts one also hurts the other.
