With an extensive resume and a matching list of achievements, Dr. Kathleen Waldron seems like a perfect fit to become William Paterson University’s next president. But the achievement that may give her a slight edge over the other two finalists is her past experience as a university president.

Baruch College made tremendous strides under Waldron, gaining national visibility as well as a substantial increase in fundraising. Waldron also helped the school see a tremendous increase in academic rankings. During her presidency, Baruch was named among the top 15% of colleges in the country by The Princeton Review. The school also received a gold badge as one of the best colleges nationwide from America’s Best Colleges 2010 Edition published by U.S. News and World Report.

“A university is known by its students and its faculty, I believe great professors attract excellent students and excellent students attract superb faculties,” Waldron said in a letter to Robert Taylor, president of the presidential search committee.

Her time at Baruch attests to that statement, as she hired over 100 new professors during her five year presidency.

While her achievements at Baruch are impressive, they are only the beginning. Prior to her career in higher education, Waldron spent 14 years at Citibank. As head of strategic planning, Waldron managed consultant relationships in excess of $1 million; all while implementing a five year strategy that would help increase investment management, trust and estate planning business.

Waldron has also served as Long Island University’s Dean of Business, and served four years as a board member of Shands Hospital at the University of Florida.

“I believe my corporate background and now 11 years in higher education administration have proved to be a very good combination for leading institutions devoted to professional education for the 21st century,” Waldron wrote.

Waldron holds a PH.D. from Indiana University, and is the recipient of numerous awards. She has seen success virtually everywhere she has been.

Waldron believes her success “parallels the success of William Paterson over the same time period and demonstrates my commitment to continued excellence and demonstrable achievements.”
